Seven lessons about pivots, purpose, faith, and becoming that I learned along the way.
1. You are allowed to change direction.
You don’t have to remain where no longer serves your purpose. There’s a time to “hang in there” and there’s a time to walk away from what doesn’t work anymore.
Knowing the difference is part of growth.
2. Your first career does not have to define your last one.
You have the right to pivot if you want to. Don’t stay stuck.
3. Being underestimated can become an advantage.
Sometimes it’s better to build, learn and prepare quietly than to rush into the spotlight before you’re ready. Not every season is a season for visibility. Some seasons are for preparation.
There is a time for everything, and an assigned time to launch.
4. You don’t need a roadmap to take the first step.
I’ve taken many steps by faith while still building, without knowing exactly how they would turn out. Sometimes the most important thing is simply having the courage to rise and move when circumstances tell you to stay still.
5. Every opportunity isn’t your opportunity.
Discern seasons, time and intentions.
6. The rooms you enter matter, but the value you bring matters more.
When you finally enter the room you’ve always wanted to be in, don’t make yourself invisible. Let your gifts, expertise and experience be seen. People cannot recognize what you refuse to reveal.
7. Success means very little if you lose yourself becoming successful.
Don’t abandon yourself in the pursuit of success. You matter. Take care of yourself. Build the career, business and life you want, but don’t lose yourself along the way.
