As I was preparing dinner for our kids yesterday, I got a media request email for tips to get over disappointments. So, as the tips immediately came to my head, I recorded a quick message on SoundCloud via Android. The background is a bit noisy (well, I’m mommy of 3 kids), so excuse me. Before you listen to the 5 tips I have for you to rise above any disappointing situation, read these first.
1. Accept it has happened.
When you accept it, then you won’t have a pity-party.
2. Transform your mind.
Renew your thinking method. This is because the way you think will affect how you will get your next position, business deal or just the next level in life.
For example, if you are disappointed about a job interview, you must realize that God has something better for you. You can be more. It’s not the end of the road. As night comes, so will day break.
3. You are greater than that setback.
What you need to do is to use this setback to prepare for your comeback. Let this setback propel you to start preparing for your comeback. Instead of being known as the one who gave up, be the comeback kid everyone remembers!
In your comeback mode, start planning , gather your materials (including your thoughts), and understand what went wrong in your meeting so you can improve and be better in the next one (because the next one will surely come BUT your must be ready).
4. Believe that the next one will be better.
You must believe that the next interview, meeting, appointment will be better than the last one. You have already prepared for your comeback, there’s no way, this won’t be better!
5. Apply the quick elevation principle.
This means, instead of dwelling on your pain or in darkness, you can actually transfer your focus into helping another person.
When you remove the focus from self to another, you are quickly elevated from the dungeon of distress to the pleasure of knowing you are doing something good for someone else.
In the process, you don’t think about your own troubles. It doesn’t mean you have buried your problems, it just means you are not overwhelmed or destroyed by them.
You can actually rise above disappointments because what you allow to hold you down will steal your destiny.
