Multipotentiality Problems and Why Some Employees are Bored

problems with multipotentiality

Some time ago, I wrote a post about what it means to be a multipotentialite.

Multipotentialite is a word that if many people knew about, they wouldn’t be in situations they are in now. They won’t try to please everybody and halt their destinies.

Multipotentiality is the ability of a person to do many things – exceedingly well. A multipotentialite is usually interested in diverse things and has acquired many skills. I won’t talk about the definition here. You can read my blog post: Will The Real Multipotentialite Please Stand Up?

Multipotentiality and its connection with employee boredom
Multipotentiality may be the reason why some employees are bored in the workplace and morale is low. When people feel like they are not using all the knowledge and skills they have in their jobs, they will be bored, depressed, sad, looking to transfer to other departments or even leave the company.

If you turn the tables, the employer observes and takes note and multi-talented employees could even lose their jobs because the boredom is seen on their sleeves. There is a disconnect because they feel that they can definitely be more. This can be very problematic for project managers because you lose talent – people with essential skills to finish a successful project.

Looking for a job with diverse skills and worked in different fields?
Multipotentiality is a blessing but can also be a double-edged sword (if you receive it).

Among many multipotentiality problems is the view that an individual who is skilled at doing different things exceedingly well could be unsure of what he or she wants from life. Society can easily place a tag on him or her as being all over the place, talented but wishy-washy with conflicting paths.

Multipotentionality may be the reason why your resume appears to be all over the place even though it is well written with every thing the recruiter wants.

You have done several jobs that aren’t even related to each other and suddenly you are looking for work in another field? Are you losing your mind? No. It’s a common thing among people who are well-versed in many areas. They can easily switch and excel in different projects.

They just don’t understand. You are gifted honey 🙂 and that’s the truth. Don’t let anyone tie you to one position and make you frustrated for the rest of your life.

So, what should you do? If you are a multipotentialite, brand yourself.
