Personal Branding for Multipotentialites

March 18, 2014 Belinda Enoma Leave a Comment

how to brand yourself as a multipotentialite

You can do many things well, right? So why limit yourself?

A common problem among people who are blessed with diverse talents and gifts is this: they don’t know what to call themselves. One day, a multipotentialite is a doctor. The next day, a politician. A few weeks later, a musician. Six months down the road, a pastor. Two years later, an entrepreneur.

The interesting thing with this constant metamorphosis is that he or she does not quit any title or relinquish roles. The mulitpotentialite loves all of them and just operates in cycles, sometimes simultaneously.

But there’s a problem. Personal branding. How do you incorporate all these wonderful things you do?

Personal branding for multipotentialites can be a pain.

Okay, let’s talk about me.

Why and How I Focused on Personal Branding
I founded iStartandFinish.com because it describes everything that I do and love to do. There were times when I found myself starting different things and working on totally different projects at the same time. Did I find them annoying? Oh no! I enjoyed them because it’s just who I am – able to multitask and brainstorm in multiple disciplines.

I love to help people identify their purpose and activate it. I help people achieve goals they didn’t think they could achieve.

When you browse my blog posts, you will discover that I write about everything – empowerment, big data, entrepreneurship, Jesus, data privacy, law, social media, emerging technologies, electronic marketing, business strategies plus more.

There were also times when I didn’t finish some things I started because at some point, it became clear that they weren’t for me and I pulled the plug. Did I beat myself over the head about them? No, because it’s important to know when to walk away than to continue to dig a hole for yourself (and if you are not careful, may not come out).

So, to empower myself to really focus on what I love to do and to put everything in one place, voila! iStartandFinish was born – with me sharpening my skills daily in all areas and truly doing all things through Christ. “Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am” (Philippians 4:13 MSG).

I strongly believe that you should not place limits on your capabilities because God created you to be more than what or where you are now. Why hide the gifts under a lamp? Let them shine and be a beacon to others (you never know)!

Brand Yourself in True Multipotentialite Style and Start Consulting
Personal branding is the way to go. Stand out from the crowd and articulate your unique value proposition. Dress to impress (live or virtual).

  1. Make it easier for you and brand yourself with your own name. Then you won’t have to keep switching from one thing to the other.
  2. Another option is to put everything you do into one sentence and register a domain that reflects those talents.

How to figure this out – these three questions will guide you.

  1. What is the main reason why you do what you do?
  2. What are you passionate about?
  3. Can you tie all your passions and talents together into one sentence?

Answer those questions properly and you’ve got a great start!
