Why Corporate Management Should Not Ignore Data Privacy Awareness

August 5, 2019 Belinda Enoma Leave a Comment

Data privacy and security awareness trainings are necessary for organizations. There is so much going on in the news about data breaches (Capital One, Equifax, Quest Diagnostics..), GDPR fines (British Airways, Marriott, Hellenic DPA decision) and more.

Technology is evolving and corporate leaders should stay on top of things.

Corporate leaders do you know what’s happening with personal data within your organization?

Have you done privacy and security awareness trainings lately?

If you are about to embark on mergers and acquisitions, have you done your due diligence about data breach risks?

It reminds me of the notice: “It’s 10 o’clock, do you know where your kids are?”

The Marriott data breach that affected nearly 500 million customers showcased the importance of performing data privacy and security due diligence pre-acquisition.

It happened to the Verizon – Yahoo acquisition deal in 2016 for $4.8b. Apparently Yahoo had data breaches from 2013 – 2014 that affected more than 1 billion accounts. This gave Verizon leverage for negotiation and the deal was agreed for $4.48b.

Dear Corporate Management: Don’t cut corners when it comes to privacy and security in your organization.

If you have not done a privacy and security awareness training for your staff lately, click here and let’s have a chat about how we can get this moving.

Everyday brings a new occurrence of a major data breach.

Ikea in Singapore had a data breach situation where a promo email was sent out revealing the email addresses of 410 customers.

Data breach can happen anywhere and anytime. It can easily happen with the use of marketing technology (email automation platforms).

To do nothing about data privacy and security is a bigger risk for your corporation. Besides, data protection regulations like the GDPR (Articles 37 and 43) require these appropriate privacy awareness trainings anyway, so don’t delay.
